Baked Onion Rings

Ingredients
  

For Onion rings:

  • 2 large onions
  • 1/2 cup of all-purpose flour
  • A pinch of salt
  • 1/2 cup of milk
  • A pinch of black pepper
  • 1 beaten egg
  • 1 cup of breadcrumbs
  • Cooking spray

For the Creole spice mix:

  • 1/8 tsp of thyme
  • 1/8 tsp of cayenne pepper
  • 1/8 tsp of black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp of sea salt
  • 1/4 tsp of oregano
  • 1/4 tsp of garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp of basil
  • 1/4 tsp of onion powder
  • 3/4 tsp of paprika

Instructions
 

  • Preheat the oven to 425°F.
  • Peel and slice onions into 1/4 inch rings, separate the rings and set them aside in a bowl of ice water.
  • In a shallow dish, mix flour with salt and pepper.
  • In another dish, whisk together milk and egg.
  • In a third dish, combine breadcrumbs with Creole spice mix.
  • Drain the onion rings from the ice water, and pat them dry with paper towels.
  • Coat each onion ring in flour mixture, then dip it into the milk and egg mixture, and finally coat it with breadcrumbs.
  • Place the coated onion rings on a wire rack placed over a baking sheet sprayed with cooking oil.
  • Lightly spray the onion rings with cooking oil.
  • Bake for 17 to 20 minutes, turning halfway through until golden brown and crispy.
  • Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce and enjoy!
